Leave a gift in your Will

A Bequest is an easy way to make a huge impact

At The Wellington City Mission we rely heavily on the generosity of people across the Wellington region. A Bequest is one of the most effective and easiest ways you can help secure our future, and the future of at-risk and struggling people throughout our region.

It doesn’t matter how large or small your gift is, it will have a lasting impact for the thousands of people who benefit from our programmes and services.

If you have included The Wellington City Mission in your Will, or if you are considering leaving us a gift, we’d love to know. Please contact our Bequest Coordinator Sharon on (04) 245 0866 or email [email protected]

Who Leaves a Bequest?

You might be wondering what type of person leaves a gift for a charity in their Will, or if it’s only for wealthy people. We want you to know, any person who cares about their community, and wants to continue helping for generations to come, can leave a Bequest.

If you’re passionate about helping The Mission make a lasting impact in Wellington’s communities, then we invite you to think of us in your Will. A Bequest costs you nothing now, and ensures you can continue to help your local community for generations to come, even after you’ve gone.

Join our community of Legacy Supporters

At The Wellington City Mission we’d like to know if you’re considering including us in your Will, because we want to keep you up-to-date on what our programmes and services are achieving, and our plans for the future.

We’d also like to have the opportunity to thank you.

How does a Bequest help?

From one generation to the next, a Bequest of any size ensures the future of our key programmes and services, and allows us to grow and adapt to the current needs of our community.

Your Bequest could contribute toward funding our Foodbank, our Drop-in Centre providing daily hot meals, and our Financial Mentoring service, along with social work support and advocacy, and the operation of our elder care residential facility called Kemp Home & Hospital. Your Bequest could directly support struggling families, at-risk youth, adults, and the elderly improve their circumstances and change their lives.

Leaving a Bequest in your Will could be one of the most rewarding things you ever do.

Types of Bequests

A Bequest is an easy way to make a huge impact, and there are different ways you can leave a gift to The Mission in your Will.

1. A Residuary Bequest

A gift (as a percentage) of what’s left of your estate, after all of your loved ones have been taken care of, and any debts have been cleared.

2. A Pecuniary Bequest

A gift of a set sum of money in your Will.

3. Specific Bequest

A gift of a specific item, such as property, personal items (art, antiques, etc.), or shares.

Don’t forget to include our Legal Name:

The Wellington City Mission (Anglican) Trust Board (Charities Commission number CC21786)

What to do next…

  • If you already have a Will

If you would like to include a Bequest to The Wellington City Mission in your existing Will, you can make a simple modification by adding a codicil (a codicil is a supplement to a Will that is intended to alter or modify it) by using the text below. To make sure your codicil is legal, we recommend it is checked and approved by a legal advisor.

  • If you don’t have a Will

A Will is an important legal document so it should be prepared by a legal professional. It’s important to discuss options and specific wording with your legal advisor to make sure your Will reflects your wishes clearly, giving specific guidance on how you want your assets and personal belongings distributed when the time comes.
